Financial Aid Officer Job DescriptionPosition DescriptionFinancial Aid Officer (FAO) is responsible for financial assistance and financial aid procedures. Duties will include designing procedures and recommending policies to conform to U.S. Department of Education financial aid policies. Incumbent will complete required U.S. Department of Education financial aid training course(s). FAO is responsible for designing and overseeing procedures as well as training staff. Much, though not all, of the work may be accomplished by telecommuting. Other duties will be accomplished at the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts office in Freeland, Washington, or at Residencies held on Whidbey Island prior to each semester. Part time position is estimated to be no more than 1/5 full time equivalent, assuming prior experience and background in financial assistance/financial aid or financial administration. Hours will vary from week to week as duties require, but should average no more than 1/5 full time. Program Director and FAO will review hours and requirements periodically. ResponsibilitiesDesigning and overseeing policies and procedures for financial assistance/financial aid including applications, student records maintenance, and ensuring accuracy of records. Training staff in procedures. Carrying out Federal and State regulations including FERPA and FAFSA. Other duties as assigned by Program Director, including but not limited to assisting with preparations for each residency as required to carry out FAO responsibilities. FAO works with Registrar, Student Services Coordinator, and Chief Financial Officer as required. Will take part in staff meetings and will be covered by all NILA policies and procedures, including but not limited to complaints/grievance process.SupervisorFAO will serve under the NILA Board of Directors and under the supervision of and report to the MFA Program Director. Information may be provided from the FAO to the Board through the Program Director, and/or the Program Director may arrange for the FAO to provide periodic informational briefings at meetings of the NILA Board. At the end of each month, FAO will submit to the Program Director a brief written summary of activities for the period, including tracking of any time worked over or under that stipulated above.
